On Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 6:17 p.m., Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers were dispatched on a “Shooting – With Weapon” call to N. E. 122nd Avenue near N. E. Oregon Street, on the west side of the street in the Hazelwood neighborhood of outer East Portland. The call came through the Portland Bureau of Emergency Communications.
Officers converge on white SUV outside care facility
When officers arrived, their attention quickly focused on a white Dodge sport utility vehicle that had come to a stop in the southbound lanes of N. E. 122nd Avenue in front of Firwood Gardens Residential Care Facility, at 819 N. E. 122nd Avenue.

Several bullet holes were visible in the driver’s side window of the Dodge GT SUV. Witnesses at the scene recounted that the vehicle had come down the street with the horn blasting before pulling over and stopping in front of the care facility.
People exiting the SUV drew officers’ attention as they tried to make sense of what had taken place before the vehicle reached that location.
Witnesses describe pleas for help
Although Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officers were on holiday and did not respond to requests for details, information gathered at the scene pointed to two people having been shot in connection with the incident.

Witnesses told reporters that a man got out of the Dodge SUV and asked for help. One of the people who stepped away from the vehicle was heard pleading with officers, saying he had been shot and needed medical attention.
There was no corresponding BOEC dispatch entry for medical response available at the time, but observers at the scene indicated that two wounded individuals were involved.
Shooting location remains unclear
Even as officers cordoned off the area around the bullet-marked SUV, it remained unclear where the shooting itself had taken place. No one interviewed at the scene reported seeing the gunfire.
Several people at the scene pointed north on N. E. 122nd Avenue and referenced a parking lot “up there” as the likely origin of the gunfire, possibly closer to N. E. Halsey Street. However, those accounts could not be independently confirmed, and officers had not publicly identified the exact location or circumstances of the shooting.
As of 10:30 p.m. that evening, a police car is parked behind the Dodge SUV as officers maintain the scene hours after the shooting.
As darkness fell, the SUV remained in the southbound lanes in front of Firwood Gardens while investigators documented bullet damage and gathered evidence around the vehicle and the immediate area.
Without information from PPB’s Public Information Office, key details – including suspect description, whether any arrests had been made, and the medical condition of the wounded – had not been made public by the time this report was prepared.
