A report of a “disturbance” at a unit in the Hazel Heights Apartments, at 12621SE Stark Street – a property owned by Central City Concern – dispatched Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers on Saturday, December 20 at 6:13 a.m.
It wasn’t long until the incident’s description was updated to “Stabbing-with-Weapon”, when they learned that a woman had been stabbed inside the apartment. Officers detained a man during the investigation.

Later that day, PPB Homicide Unit detectives arrested the husband of the victim – he’s 41-year-old Jason Alexander Norwest – in connection with the homicide.
Norwest was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 4:47 p.m. that afternoon on charges of Murder in the Second Degree (Domestic Violence), and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. After his arraignment, Alexander was transferred to Inverness Jail, where he is currently being held without bail.

On Monday, December 22nd, a PPB official revealed the victim to be 33-year-old Jessica L. Host-Norwest; the Medical Examiner confirmed that she died of “homicide by stab wound”.
