Portland Police officers are called out for two major shooting incidents this week, including this one in Hazelwood.

One of the many things for which we’re thankful this Thanksgiving season is the good work of the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) – working with community organizations, and reducing the number of outer East Portland shootings.

There were numerous “Shots Fired” calls logged this week, but, more often than not, responding officers find no “evidence of shooting” at these locations.

However, there were two documented injury shootings this week. Here are those stories:

November 22
Victim shot in Hazelwood by man who was occupying his car

Officers investigate this incident where a man is shot by another man who was sitting in the victim’s car.

This “Shooting-with-Weapon” call brought out numerous PPB East Precinct officers, just minutes after Saturday, November 22 began.

Officers were dispatched at 12:31 a.m. to a parking lot at SE 122nd Avenue and Division Street.

The gunshot victim is loaded into the ambulance, ready to be taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

“This was a shooting where the victim saw a suspect who was in his parked car, and challenged him,” is what PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Kevin Allen revealed about this incident.

“The suspect [in the car] then shot and injured him,” Sergeant Allen continued. “The wounded man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.”

The investigation into the shooting continues.

“Detectives are still investigating this shooting,” Sergeant Allen confirmed.

November 25
Daytime drive-by shooting wounds Centennial man

Looking westward, SE Division Street is shut down completely at 162nd Avenue, as a drive-by shooting investigation gets underway.

To what’s been called a “drive-by shooting” in the Centennial neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, November 25 at 1:43 p.m., as many as 25 PPB officers and Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) members were dispatched to incident in the 6500 block of SE Division Street.

Arriving not long after the dispatch ourselves, we found all lanes of SE Division Street closed to traffic; forcing heavy “holiday week” traffic to be diverted into Centennial neighborhood streets, both north and south of SE 162nd Avenue.

Near where the man was wounded, officers parked their vehicles, blocking off any sightline to where the man was shot.

Members of the P(PB’s Enhanced Community Safety Team arrive and take over the investigation.

Officers were focused on a small strip mall with three stores: Budlandia, Jin’s Market, and Time Out Pub. Because officers were talking at the door of the pub, it appeared that the shooting might have taken place at the establishment – but it turned out that ECST investigators were simply seeking video surveillance recordings.

Here’s a look, via video, at the crime scene while the investigation was underway:

Across the street, a food cart operator looked forlorn; the combination of having the road closed, and that a pelting and cold rainstorm was in progress, kept customers from her stand. “I didn’t see it, but I did hear three loud shots like ‘Pow, Pow-Pow’ and a car going away fast,” she told East Portland News.

“Officers who responded to this call determined that an adult male, standing on the sidewalk, was shot by somebody in a vehicle, who then fled the scene,” PPB spokesperson Sergeant Allen reported after it was over.

Officers speak with a person inside the establishment as they gather information about this shooting.

“The victim was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening,” Sergeant Allen went on. “Also worth mentioning: An out-of-service TriMet bus was struck by gunfire in this incident – but fortunately, the driver, the only person on board, was not hurt.”

As always, if you have information about this case, email it to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference Case No. 25-323478.
