We’d hoped that our need to combine multiple gunshot stories into a “Weekly Shooting Report” were over. But, once again this week, two people were wounded in two different shooting incidents in East Portland.

On Tuesday evening, March 3, two different teams of Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched to two seemingly unrelated calls – within four minutes of one another – in different locations in the Hazelwood neighborhood.

In one, nine officers were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. for a “Welfare Check – Priority” call to SE 96th Avenue [a street that borders I-205], near Lincoln Street.

Then, a different team of six officers were dispatched to a report of a “Shooting – Cold” call at 9:15 p.m. at Portland Adventist Medical Center’s Emergency Department.

An officer closes off SE 96th Avenue, just north of SE Division Street, to look for a suspected shooter.

The officers at the hospital were there looking into a report of a walk-in gunshot victim. Hospitals and clinics are required, by law, to report walk-in patients who are suffering traumatic injuries likely related to guns or edged weapons.

A doctor reported the adult male had sustained “at least” one gunshot wound, according to a PPB official. The victim, whose injuries were non-life-threatening, was stable, alert, and able to speak with officers. The victim told officers where he was shot on SE 96th Avenue.

Looking south along SE 96th Avenue, officers have closed off the street as they encourage the suspected gunman to surrender.

The other team of officers already at the potential crime scene developed information identifying a suspect: 31-year-old Maquann Danthony Roseman, of Portland, located in a home in the 2100 block of SE 96th Avenue. Eventually, Roseman was persuaded to come out, and he was taken into custody at 11:32 p.m.

Roseman was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) and was booked in on March 4 at 3:25 a.m. on Felony charges of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

At his arraignment, a judge “released” the charge of Attempted Murder in the First Degree. However Roseman is still being held, without bail, in Inverness Jail on the remaining charges.

The PPB’s Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) is still at work on this incident. If you have information about it, email it to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and refer to Case No. 26-62645.

Man seriously wounded in Parkrose motel shooting

NE Sandy Boulevard is closed down while officers look for a shooting suspect, when a victim is found at a nearby motel.

In the wee hours of Thursday, March 15, gunshots were reported at the Horseshoe Inn Motel, at 11324 NE Sandy Boulevard in the Parkrose neighborhood.

PPB North Precinct officers arriving around 2:50 a.m. found a man with life-threatening injuries.

“Officers learned the suspect had fled the scene on foot,” PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner later told East Portland News. “Officers quickly established a perimeter and conducted a search of the surrounding area.”

Overnight news reporters captured video of drones flying overhead in the area, and a PPB K-9 Team searching nearby property. Other officers, using a vehicle as a rolling shield, approached a male suspect. “After approximately one hour, officers located and detained an adult male for questioning,” Benner reported.

Weapons drawn, officers move in to capture and arrest a suspect.

“Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, detectives from PPB’s Homicide Unit responded to lead the investigation,” Benner explained.

“Detectives located and interviewed witnesses and conducted evidence searches of nearby properties and businesses. PPB’s ECST and Forensic Evidence Division [crime scene investigators] also assisted with this work, which ultimately led to the recovery of a firearm,” he went on.

Following the investigation, the man detained after the shooting, 40-year-old Pryce Larayray Lampkin, was formally arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) where he was booked in later that evening at 8:53 p.m. on the Felony charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

At Lampkin’s arraignment, an additional Class C Felony count of “Strangulation – Domestic Violence” added to his charges. Currently he is being held, without bail, in the MCDC.
