Two separate Portland Police Bureau responses unfold in outer East Portland, as officers investigate an early morning BB gun injury in Hazelwood — and an afternoon “trail shooting”, near the Columbia Slough in Parkrose.

On Saturday, September 12, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers responded to two separate shooting incidents in outer East Portland – a pre-dawn BB gun injury in Hazelwood, and an afternoon shooting on a path near the Columbia Slough that ended with a woman in the hospital, and a suspect in custody.
September 12, 2026 – 4:19 a.m.
Shooting is BB gun mishap in Hazelwood neighborhood
Officers from the Portland Police Bureau close the 300 block of S. E. 127th Avenue in Hazelwood to investigate a pre-dawn shooting.
Officers from PPB’s East Precinct were dispatched at 4:19 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, to a shooting call in the 300 block of SE 127th Avenue, just north of Stark Street, in the Hazelwood neighborhood.
The dark residential block was shut down by parked police vehicles. Little could be seen beyond the flashing emergency lights, and tape marking off part of the street, as officers worked quietly in the shadows.
Just north of SE Stark Street, officers were investigating what was dispatched as a shooting.
In response to questions from East Portland News about the incident, PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner confirmed that officers were sent after reports of “shots fired” came in.
Once they investigated, officers determined that a person had been shot in the foot – but, with a BB gun. “Ultimately, the person did not want police contact,” Benner reported, and no further police action followed in the case.
September 12, 2026 – 2:24 p.m.
Shots on a path near Columbia Slough leave a woman injured; a suspect detained
PPB officers converge on the south end of an industrial park off NE 112th Avenue to search for a shooting scene near the Columbia Slough.
Later that same day, at 2:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 5800 block of NE 112th Avenue, at the south end of an industrial park along the edge of the Columbia Slough Natural Area in the Parkrose neighborhood.
From the industrial area, East Portland News observed a large-scale response: Patrol units from across outer East Portland, an airplane overhead identified as the police “AIR-1”, a K-9 team, and a drone and operator – all systematically searching the slough-side paths and brush behind the industrial buildings. Word at the scene indicated that a woman had been shot someplace along a trail behind the complex.

PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Kevin Allen confirmed that on Saturday afternoon a woman had been found shot, and a suspect had been detained, in Northeast Portland – in the area where officers and specialized units had been visible.
Sgt. Allen related that officers responded after reports came in of a woman on a path calling for help, and stating she had been shot. Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital – where her injuries were found not to be life-threatening.

According to Sgt. Allen, officers quickly located a suspect in this case, and took that person into custody near the scene. The Portland Police Bureau’s Enhanced Community Safety Team assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigation.
