INCLUDES TWO CRASH ‘AFTERMATH’ VIDEOS | These crashes in the Lents neighborhood sent victims to the hospital. Fortunately, neither one of these outer East Portland smashups – a block apart – ended with a fatality; just damaged vehicles …

Twice, in three days, Portland Police Bureau officers and ambulance paramedics respond to crashes on SE Woodstock Boulevard, in the Lents neighborhood.

On January 25, and again on January 28 – in the Lents neighborhood – SE Woodstock Boulevard, just east of SE 82nd Avenue of Roses – was the scene of two collisions, both of which resulted in victims being taken to local hospitals.
It appears that these accidents were totally unrelated – other than that the drivers in each were not being alert to other vehicles.

Rollover crash sends two to hospital

After this crash in Lents, a Nissan Rogue is on its side and a wrecked Toyota Sienna is stopped at the curb.
After two SUVs collided on Sunday, January 25, at the intersection of SE 83rd Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers and an ambulance were dispatched at 1:06 p.m.
Aftermath: See this crash being investigated and the cars towed away:
Officers closed off traffic along SE Woodstock, between 82nd and 84th Avenues. For an investigation while tow trucks maneuvered to hitch up the smashed vehicles and remove them.

A tow driver hooks straps to the Nissan Rogue, preparing to tip it back onto its wheels.
A Nissan Rogue was on its side, facing southbound in the intersection. And, facing north on SE 83rd Avenue just south of the intersection – stopped at the westerly curb facing the intersection – was a Toyota Sienna with front end damage. Safety airbags had deployed in both vehicles.

With a patient onboard, this ambulance is idling along SE Woodstock Boulevard, just before departing for a hospital.
“As noted, this was a crash between a Toyota Sienna occupied by a family and a Nissan Rogue occupied by a [solo] driver,” Public Information Officer Sergeant Kevin Allen later told East Portland News. “The impact caused the Nissan to be flipped onto its side.
“The Nissan’s driver was transported to the hospital with injuries, but none proved to be serious enough to have him entered into the regional trauma system,” Sergeant Allen described. “One female passenger in the Toyota was also taken by ambulance to the hospital for precautionary medical evaluation.”.

A tow truck driver takes photos of the smashed vehicle before it’s loaded onto a flat bed truck and taken away.
“This crash was caused by a visibility issue – that is, the drivers said they couldn’t see each other due to traffic; this, there were no arrests or citations,” remarked Sergeant Allen.

T-Bone smash sends one to hospital

Here’s a wide-angle look of the other crash scene, which also was in the Lents neighborhood.
Then, on January 28, PPB officers were called back to SE Woodstock Boulevard for another “Injury Accident” – this one, at intersection of SE 84th Avenue.

Here’s a closer look at the smashed vehicles.
PPB East Precinct officers, and an ambulance, dispatched to this crash at 3:51 p.m., found two smashed SUVs in the southwest corner of the intersection.
One of the passengers told paramedics they believe they were injured.
Take a look at the aftermath of this crash in this video:
Officers found a dark green Ford Edge SEL crossover SUV with driver’s side damage that had been stopped by a wooden utility pole.
Next to it was a white Toyota bX, an all-electric compact SUV with passenger side front end damage.

It appears that the forward motion of this Ford Edge SEL was stopped by a utility pole.
A woman was taken to a local hospital for evaluation by ambulance, but the report didn’t specify from which vehicle, Sergeant Allen said. “This accident did not prompt a police investigation or report.”

This ambulance took a crash victim to the hospital for an evaluation, but she proved not to have been injured.
He told East Portland News, “The officer’s call notes only indicate that the involved parties exchanged information.” That means there were found to be no injuries, and consequently under city rules, no citation or investigation – in that situation, the respective insurance companies are relied on to sort it all out, and the police only provide traffic control.
Drive safely!
