A violent, three-vehicle smashup disrupted midday traffic in Southeast Portland on Wednesday, November 4, at 12:11 p.m. Officers and an ambulance were dispatched to an “Accident, Injury” crash on SE 82nd Avenue of Roses, just north of Flavel Street, in Brentwood-Darlington.

Neither wet weather nor dark skies were a factor in this mid-day, multi-car pileup, which left one driver hospitalized and wreckage strewn across active travel lanes.

According to a Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officer at the scene, the incident began when a Fiat 500 pulled out from a laundry business on the east side of the avenue, in the Lents neighborhood, into the travel lanes.

The Fiat was struck on the driver’s side by a Dodge Caravan – ripping the front end off the minivan. As the Fiat spun around from that, it struck a Honda Odyssey near the rear driver-side quarter panel, before coming to rest facing north in the southbound lanes.

The Fiat suffered full airbag deployment and heavy side-impact damage consistent with being T-boned.

Portland Fire & Rescue Lents Station 11’s Engine Company blocked the southbound highway to secure the scene. Firefighters disconnected vehicle batteries to prevent fire hazards, and assisted officers in extracting the Fiat driver, who was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital.

PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner confirmed one person was hospitalized, with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.  But he had no information if any citations were issued as part of the investigation.

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to investigators is asked to contact police and reference Case No. 26-320534.
