Three Rose Festival Princesses crowned in outer East Portland

Meet the 2025 Portland Rose Festival Princesses who will represent Parkrose, David Douglas, and McDaniel high schools for this year’s festivities …

As many readers have pointed out, this year East Portland News did not have articles and videos documenting the Portland Rose Festival Princess announcement ceremonies for our three outer East Portland high schools – as we have done, for decades.

It’s not that we were shunning the Portland Rose Festival, we’ve helped promote it in media since the mid 1990s. However, this year, we didn’t receive any word of the announcement dates until after they’d taken place.

In the past, we’ve honored each of the candidates at each of the schools – in addition to the Princess – because they all deserve recognition. Although their names of the court members were not revealed in these delayed notifications this year, we congratulate them all for taking part in this historic, civic scholarship competition.

Introducing Portland Rose Festival 2025 Parkrose High School Princess Ivette Hernandez.

On March 3, the Portland Rose Festival 2025 Parkrose High School Princess Ivette Hernandez was announced and her tiara was placed upon her head.

The junior remarked that the school activity which she was most proud of being involved in, was the Parkrose High 2023-24 Multicultural Festival.

Asked about her favorite Portland Rose Festival event, Princess Ivette wrote, “I have no knowledge about the Rose Festival events. I’m aware there’s a parade, but never knew when the parade was held.”

David Douglas High School

Here’s Portland Rose Festival 2025 David Douglas High School Princess Jayden Rendon-Ramirez.

The following day, on March 4, this year’s Princess Announcement at David Douglas High School was again made in an all-school assembly, inside the main gymnasium.

It was there that Portland Rose Festival 2025 David Douglas High School Princess was announced as junior Jayden Rendon-Ramirez.

Asked of what she’s most proud, during high school so far, Princess Jayden wrote, “It’s becoming an intern for the [City of Portland] Office Violence Prevention last summer.”

Her favorite Portland Rose Festival event is the Grand Floral Parade.

Congratulation to Portland Rose Festival 2025 Princess from Leodis V. McDaniel High School – Kathy Nguyen.

It appears that this year’s announcement was moved from the library of the high school over to their gym. It was there that junior Kathy Nguyen was named the Portland Rose Festival Princess representing Leodis V. McDaniel High School for 2025.

Princess Kathy listed 13 school activities in which she participates – from being the Key Club Lieutenant Governor, to the Dance captain, National Honors Society Vice President, and JV McDaniel Cheer Team – all while being on the school’s Honor Roll.

“The Rose City Parade and CityFair are my favorite Rose Festival events, both offering a vibrant celebration of Portland’s creativity and community,” Princess Kathy wrote.

The higher education plans of each princess will be aided by a $3,500 scholarship from The Randall Group.
