There apparently weren’t any witnesses to a shooting near the Springwater Corridor Trail crossing at SE Foster Road, in the Lents area, on Sunday night, August 24.

Patrons of a “gentleman’s club” across the street told East Portland News that they had heard “three or four pops” while sitting on the establishment’s patio – and thy did wander over to watch the many Portland Police Bureau (PPB) cars streaming in.

“It looked like they found one guy, and talked to him for a while, but I think [officers] let him go,” remarked a man who called himself Nicholas.

Watch, as officers and detectives search for clues in this shooting:

A sizeable number of PPB East Precinct officers were dispatched shooting at 9:31 p.m.  When East Portland News arrived, there were 19 officers, plus detectives and investigators at the scene.

Their vehicles blocked the two eastbound travel lanes of SE Foster Road. However, vehicle traffic was being directed by an officer past the crime scene, using the center turn lane.

At the Springwater Corridor Trail crossing of SE Foster Road, an officer guards any evidence in the place thought to have been the shooting.

At the crime scene are personal items presumed to have belonged to the shooting victim.

Officers were focused on two areas, two blocks apart.

Being guarded by an officer in the 10400 Block of SE Foster Road, at the Springwater Corridor Trail crossing were what was apparently were the victim’s personal effects – and an opened, used PPB IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit).

Many officers at second site
However, much of the police activity was south of SE Foster Road on 102nd Avenue, across from Sargant’s Motorsports.

A PGE high-voltage transmission tower partially blocks the view of officers some distance south, on the stub of SE 102nd Avenue, there seeking  evidence.

There, SE 102nd Avenue dead-ends, and is partially blocked off. Officers were diligently searching the area next to the PGE electrical substation, where a beat-up trailer was parked, surrounded by a nest of bicycle parts.

In response to our questions about the two seemingly-involved locations, about the person of interest briefly detained, and about the outcome of the incident, PPP Public Information Manager Mike Benner replied, “Officers responded to this call and located one person who had suffered a gunshot wound.

“An adult male suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” Benner continued. “Our Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) responded to investigation; there have been no arrests as of the time of this response.”

Into the night, police workers continue their investigation of this shooting.

If you have information about this case, and have not spoken to police, e-mail it to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov attn: ECST, and indicate that it’s about Case No. 25-231166.
