Very early in Saturday morning, December 20, a man was struck by a speeding car. He was crossing SE 122nd Avenue north of Madison Street – near the Wy’East Mens Transitional Homeless Shelter and Multnomah County Parole & Probation Department building, when he was hit and killed by a passing vehicle.
Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched at 2:09 a.m., and found the dead man – and no sign of the car that hit him.

The PPB’s Major Crash Team comes to investigate this fatal traffic incident.
For hours, SE 122nd Avenue was closed down between Madison and Market streets as the investigation by the PPB Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team continued.
On December 24, Portland Police updated the story, identifying the dead pedestrian as 63-year-old Brian G. Stone.

Investigators have concluded that the vehicle that struck and killed Stone is possibly a light colored 1990s Subaru wagon. The vehicle is believed to have damage in the area of the driver’s side headlight.
In addition, traffic investigators believe that some private security cameras and doorbell cameras may have captured critical video that may assist in their investigation.

PPB is focused on the stretch of SE 122nd Avenue between East Burnside Street and Foster Road. Investigators are asking that community members who live and work in that area upload all video that was saved on their systems from 12:05 a.m. to 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Residents are not required to review their video, or to look for anything specific, or even to verify that it captured any activity. If you want to help, you should just upload the raw footage from each individual camera. Please do not edit, enhance, combine into “multiview,” or otherwise alter the footage. Please ensure the footage is in a standard file format, and does not require a proprietary player. Investigators will review the video for potential clues.

Use this QR Code to directly upload video to PPB investigators – for this investigation, only.
If you have information about this fatal crash and have not already talked to police, please e-mail crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 25-347430.
Sadly, this traffic-related fatality in 2025 is another setback to the objectives of the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Vision Zero program.
