During one of our recent hot sizzling Sunday afternoons – July 13th – most folks were indoors in from of the air-conditioner, or at least in the shade.

Watch as this murder investigation unfolds:

But, a Powellhurst-Gilbert neighbor, who said he’d stepped outside to water his flowers, said he heard an argument heating up at a nearby house, along SE Boise Street near 114th Avenue.

“A few minutes later, I saw a bunch of cop cars pulling up – it seemed, from all directions,” he told East Portland News.

A PPB detective and officer take refuge in the shade, awaiting the arrival of crime scene investigators and additional staff.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers were dispatched to this “Stabbing-with-Weapon” call at 3:20 p.m. – eventually bringing in a total of 18 officers, detectives, and investigators.

Arriving officers found one adult male dead at the address.

Stifling hot weather doesn’t discourage this police canine from sniffing out suspects.

“At 4:03 p.m., officers made contact with an adult male suspect by phone, and a short time later detained him nearby,” a PPB official revealed, without stating where the suspect was taken into custody.

However, crime scene tape was surrounding the permanent restroom at Ed Benedict Park, less than a mile away from the crime scene. Police officials told reporters that the location was “related” to the investigation.

The PPB’s new Mobile Command Center parks on SE 114th Avenue, as the homicide investigation gets underway.

About 10 hours after he was detained, police arrested 28-year-old Juan Jose Olguin, of Portland, for the murder. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) on July 14 at 2:14 a.m., on charges of Felony of Murder in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Currently, Olguin is being held, without bail, in Inverness Jail.
