A fatal early evening collision claimed the life of a pedestrian on Interstate 205, prompting emergency dispatches for what began as an “Accident-with-Injury” call on Monday evening, October 26, 2026, at 7:44 p.m., by the Portland Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC).
Responders rushed to the northbound lanes of Interstate 205 near the Holgate Boulevard pedestrian overpass, where the freeway cuts through the Lents neighborhood of outer East Portland.

Even in this ODOT traffic camera image, damage to the front of this Chevy extended-cab pickup truck is evident – as it’s stopped on the northbound inside shoulder.
Freeway scene and observations
At the scene, a white Chevrolet pickup truck – with obvious front-end damage – was stopped in the northbound inside “break-down” lane of the freeway, while a witness’ vehicle was also stopped nearby in the roadway.
Traffic ground to a halt while emergency personnel secured the area.

With a drone ready for takeoff, and their FARO Crash Reconstruction recorder ready, the PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team members prepare to map and document the fatal crash scene on northbound Interstate 205.
Officers from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct arrived at the crash site at 7:55 p.m. and confirmed a deceased male pedestrian on the highway. The involved driver remained on scene following the incident.
Due to the severity of the crash, officers called in the PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team to conduct a full reconstruction and investigation.

Members of the PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team examine the dark roadway, looking for evidence and physical debris following the fatal early-evening crash.
Throughout the multi-hour investigation, northbound Interstate 205 was closed to all traffic at SE Foster Road, including the northbound on-ramp. The freeway reopened just after midnight in the early hours of Tuesday, October 27.
