The summery weather didn’t divert 18 people from attending the June 12 meeting of the Lents Neighborhood Livability Association (LNLA), up on Mt. Scott.

As is their custom, the LNLA provided a light supper and snacks for attendees before the meeting, which also allows them time to converse with each other as they sat at tables.

Attendees listen intently as they learn about TriMet Security improvements.

After routine announcements, David Potts introduced the primary guest speaker – TriMet Executive Director of Safety & Security Andrew Wilson – and those accompanying him: Kittie Kong, TriMet Community Affairs/82nd Transit Project; and Miles Pengilly, Director, Government Affairs.

Introducing himself and the program he manages, it’s TriMet Executive Director of Safety & Security Andrew Wilson.

TriMet’s Director of Safety & Security Andrew Wilson began by informing the guests that there are five separate groups composing TriMet’s Safety and Security organization:

Transit Police
Transit Security Officers
Customer Safety Supervisors
Customer Safety Officers
Safety Response Team members

After describing the scope and work of each of these teams, Wilson shows graphics illustrating how TriMet’s Safety and Security’s workforce has doubled since 2022.

Wilson then told how assigning more “people on the platforms” – and using more technologically-sophisticated video surveillance equipment – has reduced crime, and improved safety.
