After an altercation in the Hazelwood neighborhood was reported on Saturday, January 9, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:39 p.m. to a reported stabbing in a house on the north side of Glisan Street, across from NE 126th Avenue.

“Arriving officers found an adult male deceased inside a home,” PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner told reporters at the east edge of the Menlo Park Plaza shopping center.

Soon, PPB vehicles began to fill the area in front of four houses on NE Glisan Street – which was already completely shut down to all traffic – between 125th and 127th Avenues.

Officers and Homicide Unit detectives gather to discuss the investigation as it unfolds.

As seen from two blocks away through our telephoto lens, red tape marks the driveway of the house where the fatal stabbing took place.

As usual, using the PPB’s Mobile Command Unit as their headquarters, Homicide Unit detectives and Forensic Division operatives began the investigation. Eventually, as many as 27 PPB staffers were at the scene.

“While the investigation is in its early stages, detectives do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public,” Benner reported at the time.

Just a block west of Glenfair School, this homicide investigation unfolds.

Suspect arrested
24 hours later, on January 10th, Benner revealed that the suspect in this homicide had been identified – and had been taken in custody.

“In the early morning hours of January 10, in the area of SE 128th Avenue and Stark Street, officers located a man identified by detectives as the suspect in this homicide,” announced Benner.

The man officers arrested is 27-year-old Jarrod Leo Yahtin-Cloud of Portland. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) at 5:56 a.m., the morning of his arrest, on a charge of Murder in the Second Degree.

At his arraignment later that day, Yahtin-Cloud learned he would also be charged with Felony Parole Violation. Currently, Yahtin-Cloud is being held in the MCDC without bail on the murder charge, in lieu of a $20,000 County Hold bail.
