For the second year in a row, the ROSE Community Development Corp. (ROSE) held a Mother’s Day Brunch at Lents Village on May 9.

“We do this to recognize all of the mothers in the neighborhood,” said ROSE Executive Director Nick Sauvie.

The event’s coordinator, and ROSE Board Member, Virginia Petersen spends a moment with Nick Sauvie (on left) and (on right) longtime ROSE supporter Ross Cornelius, who is from Walsh Construction.

“One of the programs we’re really excited about, and talking about, is our Baby Booster Project – we’re supporting pregnant women, and families with young children. This is one of the featured programs at our event today,” Sauvie told East Portland News.

Receiving a ROSE “Healthy Impact Award” is Cathy Schneider of Multnomah County Libraries, who works with the Books to You program.

For working with Northwest Health Foundation, Sherrena Torrence of ROSE CDC is presented a ROSE “Healthy Impact Award” for managing the Baby Booster project.

Lil’ Lentels co-founder Rebecca Stavenjord is presented a ROSE “Healthy Impact Award” for her work with the family group.

Overall the annual brunch helps advance the mission of ROSE, commented Sauvie, “Because we’re raising funds to support our innovative programs.

“And, community building is also a big part of what we do,” Sauvie added. “This is bringing people together, and having a fun time helps us accomplish that.”
