The Lents Neighborhood Livability Association (LNLA) meeting on Thursday evening, August 8, featured the return of Portland City Council District 1 candidates who wished to come and further discuss why they should be elected to office.

In this video, in the order of their arrival at the meeting, Portland City Council District 1 candidates individually speak directly to East Portland News – to say why they should be elected to office:

After a light supper, the meeting began with announcements of LNLA activities.

LNLA’s Chair David Potts set the stage: “This will be an open forum of questions and answers between the audience and the candidates. Nothing will be rejected or censored as a valid question or concern. This is the time to ‘vet’ the candidates you wish to vote for.”

Before the meeting begins, LNLA Vice Chair Todd Littlefield listens to the concerns of a neighbor.

Candidates mix with the meeting attendees, getting to know them one-on-one.

Guest speaker Will Lathrop, a candidate for State Attorney General, reintroduced himself to the group, and said why he’s running for the post.

Then, District 1 Candidates Deian Salazar, Timur Ender, Terrence Hayes, Noah Ernst, Thomas Shervey, David Linn, Michael Sands, Steph Routh, and Loretta Smith each introduced themselves.

District 1 Candidates begin to take questions from audience members.

Candidate Loretta Smith arrived just as the meeting started; Steph Routh, who’d been officiating a wedding, arrived the end of the meeting. Although they’d previously confirmed that they planned to come, candidates Cayle Tern and Sonja McKenzie didn’t attend.

The meeting gave the 36 attendees the opportunity to directly interact with these candidates.
