It looks like the victim will survive, after being hit and smashing the car’s windshield, in this outer East Portland hit pedestrian story …

On the sunny, springlike Wednesday afternoon of March 4, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched at 3:21 p.m. to an “Accident-with-Injury” westbound on SE Stark Street, near the “pedestrian-activated-beacons” crosswalk near 133rd Avenue.

Crash victim on board, this ambulance rushes the injured person to a local hospital.
An officer at the scene explained that the PPB’s Major Crash Team had not been summoned to what he described as an “pedestrian vs. car” crash at the intersection.
Long after the ambulance had departed, officers continued to confer with the driver of a Toyota Prius – with a caved-in windshield – stopped about a half-block west of the crash site.

Even from a distance, the smashed-in windshield of the Toyota is visible.
“Officers did determine that a pedestrian had been struck,” PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner told East Portland News. “The individual was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation; but ultimately, the driver was cited for careless driving.”

Approach crosswalks, like this one, with caution when driving, especially if the sun is in your eyes.
This appears to be a cautionary story about watching vigilantly while driving westbound on streets, as we approach spring and the sun hangs in the sky longer in the afternoon.
