Although it was held the day before Hallowe’en – on Thursday, October 30 — this Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association (BDNA) event didn’t focus on trick-or-treating.

Instead, a couple dozen families gathered in the Brentwood-Darlington Community Center for another of their “neighborhood dinners”, such as they’ve held in the past.

With door prize ticket in hand, it’s Brentwood Darlington Neighborhood Association event co-organizer Kylie Hyde.

“We’re here celebrating this season! So, several of us came dressed for Hallowe’en for our ‘Harvest Dinner’ here at the Community Center,” pointed out co-planner, and BDNA Secretary, Kylie Hyde.

In the kitchen, volunteers Gail Kiely, Cynthia Cook, and Mara Burmeister keep the supper buffet supplied with food.

It’s the MacDonald family, from “just blocks away” in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood, enjoying this BDNA-hosted community meal.

“It’s about bringing our community together, by providing dinner,” Hyde told East Portland News.

“Our volunteers cooked three different hearty soups this evening; and Grand Central Bakery donated 10 loaves of bread for our supper – which was amazing and generous,” she commended.

Spinning up candy floss treats is BDNA Board Member Lunetta Olayan.

“It seems that people are a little bit more stressed about food lately, so we’re providing an opportunity for people to come together, chat with their neighbors, enjoy a good meal together,” Hyde observed. “And, just have fun!”
