As the sky grew dark in the late afternoon of November 27, shots rang out at the intersection of SE 83rd Avenue and Davis Street.

Unlike typical such shootings, no vehicles were seen careening out of the neighborhood afterward. Instead, the 9-1-1 Center received reports of a young man, dressed in dark clothing, slinking away from the scene.

As part of their investigation, officers talk with the resident of the house that was struck by bullets.

“Officers didn’t locate any gunshot victims,” said Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Sgt. Greg Stewart.

Officers closed off the area with crime-scene tape, and searched for evidence for about three hours. They found at least five spent bullet casings.

“Evidence of a shooting there including a home struck by gunfire,” Stewart said.

Yellow evidence tags on the street mark the location of bullet casings.

“Witnesses reported a possible suspect as an African American male, approximately 18 years of age, about 6 feet tall and skinny, in the area – but the potential suspect was not located,” Stewart added.
“It is unknown if this incident is gang involved at this time and the investigation is ongoing,” concluded Stewart.
