All who have driven on S.E. Woodstock Boulevard in the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood have encountered the sharp double bend in the street at S.E. 69th Avenue – it’s been the location of numerous injury car smashups. Residents of a house in the bend have arrayed heavy boulders across the front of their property to protect their home from being hit.

The latest incident occurred on Wednesday, March 15, at 3:14 p.m. Emergency first-responders were dispatched to a head-on crash there.

Police officers and paramedics rush to the scene and find the results of a grinding crash.

Two Portland Police Bureau officers, Portland Fire & Rescue Lents Station #11’s Engine Company firefighter/paramedics, and an ambulance all arrived within minutes.

Few people saw it happen, but many neighbors heard a loud, grinding, crashing sound and ran out to look at the latest wreck in their street.

According to one person who did see it take place, the driver of a white Nissan KICKS – a subcompact crossover SUV – was westbound, perhaps driving a bit too fast. Coming out of the double bend, the SUV swerved out of lane, and crashed nearly head-on into an oncoming Toyota Sienna minivan.

This is the result of an offset, head-on crash.

One of the passengers was in the ambulance, receiving a medical assessment. After receiving immediate medical attention from the ambulance paramedics, it stayed at the site for quite some time. Apparently the victim’s injuries weren’t severe enough to warrant being rushed to a hospital. No other injuries were reported, but both vehicles were totaled.

If you drive S.E. Woodstock Boulevard, stay alert for that double bend in the road. You could be in a bad crash or upturned on those boulders, if you’re not careful.
