Week #103 Shooting Report | UPDATED | It looked for a while as if this would be a ‘murder-free week’ in our neighborhoods; but it was not to be. A man and woman are shot on East Burnside Street; she dies. That story, and our weekly ‘Shots Fired Log’, below …
Day and night, Portland Police Bureau officers are sent to possible gunshots being fired, or actual shootings.

There were plenty of “Shots Fired” and “Shooting-with-Weapon” calls during the long 4th of July Holiday – but no such homicides occurred during the three-day weekend. However, a deadly shooting did take place shortly after the Independence Day holiday.
July 6
Deadly shooting at 148th Avenue MAX station
n less than a week, PPB officers return for another shooting at the TriMet MAX Light Rail Blue Line station at 148th Avenue – this one had a deadly result.
After the July 1 shooting at 1:58 p.m. on the platform of the TriMet MAX Light Rail Blue Line station, shots were fired there again, very late on July 6. At that location, they left one female deceased and one male victim in the hospital with gunshot wounds.
That’s what we learned had happened there, on the border of the Glenfair and Hazelwood neighborhoods, from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) the same evening.
A man, reportedly shot in the leg by known assailants, according to neighbors, is about to be taken to a local hospital by ambulance.
On July 6 at 11:22 p.m., PPB East Precinct officers were dispatched on a “Shooting-with-Weapon” call and found a dead woman at the MAX station platform.
Not far away along East Burnside Street, they also found a male shooting victim. “The male victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries,” a PPB official revealed.
The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called, and no immediate arrests were made.
This homicide investigation continues into the night.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit was called to the crime scene. During an investigation that went far into the night, East Burnside Street was closed to all traffic between NE 148th Avenue and 150th Avenue.

Shooting calls in outer East Portland
Other shooting incidents, to which emergency medical responders were dispatched, occurred in the Lents and Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhoods this week. . .
July 1 at 5:25 a.m.
Powellhurst-Gilbert; SE Powell Boulevard
A man is shot with a BB gun; officers talk with him as he is being medically evaluated and prepared for a trip to the hospital.
Officers were sent look into this shooting on SE Powell Boulevard at 135th Avenue. “A complainant came into the convenience store saying he had been shot; but his injuries were not consistent with what he was describing,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Kevin Allen.
“Officers believed he was [actually] injured with a BB gun or pellet pistol; and he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital,” Sgt Allen told East Portland News. “Officers attempted to locate a crime scene, but were unable to do so.” This is Case No. 22-175379.
July 5 at 11:05 a.m. and at 11:45 a.m.
In Lents, near or on the Springwater Trail
Sgt. Allen said the previous call, above, and this one were directly related to one another. The first incident was along SE Foster Road near 102nd Avenue; just west of the Springwater Trail – and the second shooting call directed officers to where SE 102nd Avenue dead-ends into the Springwater Trail just south of Foster Road.
“At these incidents, the same victim was shot in the face with a BB gun,” Sgt. Allen reported. “The victim was uncooperative with the officers; this generated two separate calls, because he didn’t want to provide information.” These are Case Numbers 22-179382 and 22-179413.

~ SHOTS FIRED LOG ~
We saw quite an increase from the previous weeks, with 40 “Shots Fired” calls logged; PPB officials say this was due to several incidents of illegal fireworks being set off on the July 4th Holiday, reported by residents as possible shots fired. Officers actually did find evidence of shooting at some of these calls.

We are doggedly continuing our reporting of shooting incidents in East Portland – until such a time as we can report that there seems to be some real control gained over the epidemic of shooting crimes in our area.
Alas, that time has not yet come.
