Woman run down in crosswalk near hospital

Police close off SE Main Street in the Mill Park neighborhood, after a pedestrian is struck and injured in a crosswalk near Portland Adventist Medical Center.

At this time, it remains unknown if 43-year-old Jessica Michelle Moore of Northwest Portland was an employee of Portland Adventist Medical Center, going for treatment, or was visiting a patent in the hospital, when she was struck by a car at 5:13 p.m. on January 4.

What is certain is that Moore was heading toward the hospital while crossing SE Main Street, and she was within a crosswalk.

As the investigation continues, officers protect the scene where a pedestrian was struck down, while walking in a crosswalk.

“Officers and medical personnel located the female pedestrian suffering from traumatic injuries; she was transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital with life-threatening injuries,” recounted Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

The driver has been identified as 56-year-old William Schuyler Gilmour of Elk Grove, California, Simpson said. “Gilmour was not impaired at the time of the crash, remained at the scene, and fully cooperated with investigators.”

The driver of this Kia stopped after the accident, and cooperated with the authorities, police say.

Traffic investigators learned that Gilmour was driving a white Kia Forte 4-door westbound on Main Street. “He was reportedly driving at or below the speed limit, when he struck Moore, who was in a crosswalk,” Simpson said.

Hours after the crash, members of the PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team remained at the location, gathering evidence and making notations.

Investigators will continue to review information as part of the ongoing investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution.
