After a car struck a female pedestrian and then sped off – the woman may have been crossing between intersections – on SE Division Street, east of 122nd Avenue, on Wednesday afternoon, May 24, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers were dispatched at 1:37 p.m.
Thanks to the reinstatement of the PPB’s Traffic Division, both East Precinct and Motor Officers were sent to the scene – along with an ambulance.
“When officers arrived, they found an adult female in the road, who was taken from the scene by ambulance,” a PPB spokesperson revealed.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, the female died at the hospital,” the police spokesperson continued. “Preliminary investigation indicates the woman was a pedestrian and was struck by an eastbound driver who did not stop.”
It wasn’t long until 14 officers were there, including those with the PPB Major Crash Team, to document and investigate the fatal encounter.
For several hours, SE Division Street was closed to traffic.

UPDATE
On May 29, PPB officials revealed that the woman killed in a hit-and-run crash on is identified as 35-year-old Lara C. Morrow of Portland.

This crime is yet another setback for the goals of the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Vision Zero program: It’s the 21st traffic fatality so far this year in the City of Portland; ten of which involved pedestrians – and, three of the pedestrians killed were struck by hit-and-run drivers, according to officials.
