Red’s Bar & Grill, on SE Foster Road in the Foster-Powell Neighborhood, is known as a friendly local establishment. But it is where a crook stole a US Army soldier’s pickup truck, identification and checks.

US Army soldier was enjoying some well-earned R&R on the evening of July 14 at Red’s Bar & Grill, located at 7025 SE Foster Road.
While the soldier was relaxing inside the friendly neighborhood establishment, a crook or crooks were busily at work at 11:10 p.m. – breaking into his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup, hotwiring it, and taking it for a brief joyride.
Four hours later, the truck was dumped a few blocks away, at SE 80th Avenue and Bush Street. “When it was found, missing from the truck were several personal items, including the victim’s checkbook,” said Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

“The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is now asking for the public’s help in identifying the identity thief using those stolen checks,” Simpson said.
Detectives investigating the theft released surprisingly-clear surveillance images of a woman using the victim’s checks to purchase items at a Portland-area gas station.
