For the many who “just can’t wait” for the Montavilla Famers Market (MFM) to open this spring on May 2, they come out once-a-month for the “Winter Stock-up Market” at the traditional location, on SE Stark Street, on each fourth Sunday of the month.
On December 22, shoppers scurried about the market, shopping for their Holiday dinners, picking up fresh produce and tree fruits – as well as prepared food items.
MFM Manager Alison DeLancey spends a moment with Audrey Voon, Director of the Montavilla Community Christmas Choir at the Montavilla United Methodist Church, which entertained at the market.
“This is definitely a joyful Holiday market we’re having today,” said MFM manager Alison DeLancey.
“During these markets, people can come here and get their winter produce, so their kitchens are full of fresh things to eat,” DeLancey told East Portland News. “Also, it’s a fun way to connect with our community during the winter months!”

Shoppers demand winter markets
This idea came up several years ago, “because customers kept asking for it; saying ‘we miss you, and we miss our good food!’ – so, truthfully, it was our response to customer demand.
“Many of the vendors were willing to come for some winter markets, and we’re grateful to be able to provide a place for farmers and neighbors to visit,” DeLancey said.
At the MFM Winter Stock-up Markets in January and February, shoppers will see their favorite vendors that they “know, love, and trust”, providing winter greens, eggs and meats, DeLancey pointed out.
There’s lots of fresh food and goodies to had – even during the winter months — at the MFM “Winter Stock-up Market”.
Two more winter markets this year
The MFM “Winter Stock-up Market” is open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on January 26, and again for the last time in the winter season, on February 23.
Kids, and “well-behaved” dogs on leashes, are welcomed. Find the Market on the gravel lot, in the 7700 block of SE Stark Street – across the street from Mr. Plywood. For more information, see their official website: CLICK HERE.
