When six outer East Portland businesses opened on the morning of August 27, employees found shattered glass front doors and smashed windows throughout the Hazelwood and Mill Park neighborhoods.

Before daylight, window-smash sensors and video surveillance systems were alerted that scruffy-looking male was vandalizing windows along SE Division Street, from about 148th Avenue west to about 122nd Avenue.

The perpetrator damages, but doesn’t completely smash out, the front door at this Key Bank branch.

Just west of SE 148th Avenue, Kelli’s Café, Key Bank, Northwest Auto Wholesale, and Duke’s Bar and Grill, all had glass doors – and some windows – smashed at their establishments.

Two windows, one of them quite large, were smashed at this family owned convenience store.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct District officers later learned that that two windows were broken at the Stop & Go Market, too, on SE 122nd Street at Lincoln Street.

This small window was broken in the overnight smashing spree, at the American Legion Portland Post #1 Hall, also on SE 122nd Street near Mill Street

“Officers reviewed surveillance video from Northwest Auto Wholesale and were able to get a good description of the suspect,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Through their computerized system, they transmitted the security image of the suspect to all of the district patrol cars on duty.

Officials say they now believe that this man, 45-year-old Jaime Harold Calderon, is responsible for all the damage – and other vandalism in the area. MCDC booking photo

“Approximately 12:00 p.m. that day, an officer saw the suspect at SE 139th Avenue and Main Street and took him into custody without incident,” Simpson said.

“Officers have linked him to numerous incidents of vandalism along SE Division Street,” he added.
At 2:23 p.m. 45-year-old Jaime Harold Calderon, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) on charges of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (six counts).

Calderon remains incarcerated at MCDC in lieu of $30,000 combined bail.
