Employees at two outer East Portland service stations were roughed up by a pair of thugs who targeted their businesses for armed robbery, says Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Public Information Officer Sgt. Peter Simpson.
The first holdup was at 12:53 a.m. on June 4, 2012, at the Astro Gas Station, located at 11214 SE Division Street.
“Officers spoke with the victim, who told police that two suspects entered the business and one was armed with a handgun,” Simpson reported. “The suspect with the handgun hit the victim in the head with it, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.”
-2 Police say they believe the same two bandits also robbed this store, on the MAX Light Rail Line, at Max Mart and Deli, at 12128 E, Burnside Street.
That very evening, PPB East Precinct district officers rolled out at 8:55 p.m., on the report of another armed robbery – this time at the Max Mart and Deli, at 12128 E. Burnside Street.
“Officers arrived in the area and spoke with the victim, who told police that two suspects entered the business and one was armed with a handgun,” stated Simpson. “The suspect armed with the gun pistol-whipped the clerk, causing minor injuries, while the other suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.”
Both suspects fled the area on foot. Officers and a police K-9 unit searched the neighborhood, but did not locate any suspects.
“Robbery detectives believe that the same suspects are involved in both robberies,” Simpson added, and then provided descriptions:
- The suspect armed with the handgun is described as an African American male, 17-24 years old, 5’6″ to 5’9″, thin build, wearing dark clothing.
- The second suspect is described as an African American male, 17-24 years old, 5’8″, thin build, wearing all-dark clothing.
