Man killed in hit-and-run crash near Menlo Park Elementary School

An early morning crash, between a bicyclist and a vehicle that fled the scene, closes down NE Glisan Street while the investigation gets underway.

Fortunately, Menlo Park Elementary School wasn’t in session when this late night crash near it took place on October 21.

Early that Monday morning at 2:37 a.m., Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched to investigate the report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle near the intersection of NE 128th Avenue and Glisan Street.

Arriving officers located a male bicyclist who’d died at the scene; and learned that the driver of the responsible vehicle fled the area.

The focus of this investigation is near the crosswalk used by parents and kids going to and from Menlo Park Elementary School.

The PPB’s Major Crash Team came to investigate and closed down the street for hours.

Concerns were that NE Glisan Street being closed for the investigation would impede children getting to school. However, parents and busses were able to access the school via East Burnside Street and NE 128th Avenue.

Officers continue their investigation into this deadly crash.

UPDATE:
On November 14, officials identified the man killed in this hit-and-run crash as 38-year-old Sergio D. Hunt.
