Dark of night didn’t dampen violence on the streets in the Hazelwood and Glenfair neighborhoods on September 17; nor did the heavy rain in the following night, September 18.

Reports of a shooting brought Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers to area of SE 119th Avenue and Stark Street on September 17 at 2:59 a.m.

Arriving officers found evidence of a shooting,– but, “The officers canvassed the area and did not locate anyone with injuries,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Chris Burley. “As officers continued the on scene investigation, they learned a gun shot victim had arrived at an area hospital by private vehicle.

After learning the gunshot victim had already been taken to a hospital by a friend, police continue to investigate the case.

“An officer contacted the gunshot victim at the hospital, and confirmed that the adult male was shot on SE 119th Avenue, just  north of Stark Street,” Burley said – and added that there is currently no suspect description available.

“The victim’s injuries are believed to be serious, but non-life-threatening,” Burley said.

Midnight shooting wounds two people

Police establish two crime scenes – one where the victims are found, and another where the crime was said to have taken place.

Minutes after midnight, officers rolled to the area of 136th Avenue and East Burnside Street when two people were reportedly struck by bullets.

“Officers arrived and located an adult male and female suffering from gunshot wounds,” Burley confirmed. “Officers applied a tourniquet to one of the victims as emergency medical personnel responded to the scene; both the victims were transported to area hospitals by ambulance. The adult male victim sustained minor injuries and the adult female victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Ambulance EMTs prepare to transport shooting victims to a local hospital.

During the investigation, officers found multiple bullet strikes on the victims’ vehicle. And, during the investigation, it also came out that the shooting actually took place near the northeast edge of Glendoveer Golf Course, near NE 148th Avenue and Halsey Street.

“Based on information learned in the investigation, officers believe the two victims were driving their vehicle in the area of NE of 148th Avenue and Halsey Street when they were shot,” reported Burley. “After the shooting the victims drove to East Burnside Street and 136th Avenue, and called police.”

East Precinct officers and members of the Gang Violence Response Team continue the investigation.

Officers located evidence of gunfire at that location.

At this time there is no suspect description to provide, Burley remarked; and based on information gathered during the preliminary investigation, the Gang Violence Response Team (GVRT) took over the investigation.
