Gunshots rang out on Tuesday evening, June 18, in a portico outside of the Cinemark Century Eastport Plaza 16 theater complex, wounding a man. Oddly, no one called the 9-1-1 Center to report the shooting.

However, after a medical call reached the dispatchers asking for an ambulance 1.1 miles due south of the cinema, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched to a residential area of the Lents neighborhood, just north of SE Foster Road.

At SE 87th Avenue at Reedway Street, just north of Foster Road, officers arrive to look into the report of a teen wounded by gunfire.

“Both PPB’s Focused Intervention Team (FIT) and officers from East Precinct responded to SE 87th Avenue at Reedway Street to a report of someone having been shot,” PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner told East Portland News the following day.

An ambulance takes the wounded 19-year-old male to a hospital for treatment.

“Officers located 19-year-old male that had been shot in his legs,” Benner said. “He appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”

Learning of the actual location of the shooting, FIT investigators went to the theater after the teen was taken away in an ambulance.

Outside the theater, patrons stand and chat, as if nothing had happened that evening.

“Their investigation revealed the shooting happened in the hallway outside a theater; the investigation is continuing,” Benner concluded his report.

Although they haven’t specifically asked for information, if you can fill in some of the details of this shooting, and haven’t spoken with investigators, they’d like to hear from you. E-mail it to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.govAttn: FIT, and make reference to Case Number 24-150681.
