Bystanders called the 9-1-1 Center on Sunday afternoon, January 31st, to report a stabbing near the Eastgate Station apartments, in the 100 block of NE 120th Avenue, near Davis Street, just before 5:30 p.m.

It’s unclear if anyone witnessed the crime, or was able to provide any information on who had done it.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct units rapidly responded. “Upon their arrival, officers found an adult male victim [he later turned out to be 19] with a stab wound,” reported PPB Public Information Officer Derek Carmon.

PPB Homicide Division detectives begin an investigation.

Emergency medical first-responders were called in to render aid. “However, the victim died at the scene,” Carmon said. “PPB Homicide Division detectives came to investigate the death.”

The next Tuesday, the Medical Examiner announced that the victim was 19 year-old Isaiah Jason Maza Jr., that he had indeed died of the stab wound, ruling his death a homicide.

“The investigation is ongoing, and Homicide Detectives request that anyone with information about this incident please contact them,” Officer Carmon requested.
