Officials aren’t saying exactly what it was that led to Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers – a lot of them – being dispatched to a no-name apartment complex at 5333 SE 136th Avenue, on Friday afternoon, December 20.
Nevertheless, at 3:07 p.m., a total of 11 officers – including a Behavioral Heath officer, two K9 police dog teams, and an officer operating a drone – were there for what was dispatched for a “Robbery-with-Weapon”.
An officer has a UAV (drone) set up and ready to take off, if and when needed.
Watch as officers conduct their investigation of a reported armed robbery:
Some officers moved to the north, along the stub of NE Steele Street, a secondary vehicle exit for the U-shaped apartment complex. The focus of those officers seemed to be one particular townhome unit at the rear of the complex.
Walking up to the scene, we saw a young male being escorted by officers who helped him inside a police cruiser.
As they investigate this incident, officers walk out in and out of a unit at the far end of the complex.
“This incident started when someone reported being robbed at gunpoint,” PPB Public Information Manager Mike Benner later told East Portland News after the incident had concluded. “There were no injuries or shots reported.
“Officers immediately followed up on leads, and checked a nearby residence for the suspect,” said Benner. “A couple of people were detained, and officers then attempted to determine whether they were involved.”
Officers seat a male juvenile in the back of this squad car.
At the conclusion of the investigation, a male juvenile was ultimately arrested and lodged in the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on charges of Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Robbery in the First Degree, Benner told East Portland News.
