Emergency response agencies were called to the intersection of the I-205 southbound off ramp and SE Stark Street about 7:15 p.m. on August 31, responding to a two-vehicle injury accident.
Witnesses said a blue Nissan Versa had exited the freeway, and was continuing southbound across SE Stark Street on a green traffic control signal when it was broadsided by a swift moving silver Honda Accord coupé that ran a red light.
This Nissan Versa was headed in almost the opposite direction, before it was T-boned and spun around.
The driver of the Nissan was trapped inside the car after it spun around about 150? and came to a stop. The crew of the Portland Fire & Rescue Station 19 Engine Company stabilized the crash victim, easing the patient out of the passenger’s side of the vehicle, and onto a waiting ambulance gurney.
The driver of the Honda didn’t seem badly injured, stayed at the scene, and spoke with the police. A witness said the Honda’s driver was claiming to have been blinded by the setting sun, and hadn’t seen that the signal was red.
A paramedic checks on the crash victim inside the ambulance.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
This accident remains under investigation.
