‘Strike!!’ Chamber’s ‘Turkey Bowl’ spares seasonal fowl

It’s true!  No turkeys were injured at this annual November event held by the East Portland Chamber of Commerce. But, look at all the fun they had, nevertheless …

From all over this side of the city, members and guests of the East Portland Chamber of Commerce (EPCC) found their way to the Hollywood Bowl on November 9.

Forty participants neatly divided themselves into ten teams each as they took over the west alleys for a Saturday afternoon of sporting competition.

Turkey Bowl organizer Holly Moss shows of one of the 30 “fabulous door prizes” given away during the EPCC event.

“Actually, looking at people playing today, I think it’s more about having fun than competing against one another,” said perennial event organizer Holly Moss of The Bookkeeping Company LLC.

“It’s about bowling, raising some money for the Chamber, eating pizza, and winning one of the 30 fabulous door prizes,” Moss told East Portland News.

EPCC manager Shelley Shirley from Westside Secretarial, Sue Eastman of SE Works, and EPCC President Sarah Garrison from Garrison Marketing Solutions show off even more prizes to be given away.

Proving that the event is fun for all ages are bowlers Lauren Barr, Nikolaus Hill, and Eleanor Baer – all winners of their division.

After all the games are played, William Keller of William Keller CPA takes the title of “Top Scorer” at the 2013 EPCC Turkey Bowl.

President of the East Portland Chamber of Commerce, and one of the sponsors for the bowling tournament, Sarah Garrison was helping out.

“This bowling event has been taking place since the inception of the chamber,” Garrison said.  “Our mission is to do business with people you know, like, and trust. Things like this help facilitate building friendships and those bonds between individuals.

“I believe the more you know somebody, the more you trust that person – and the more you want to do business with them,” Garrison added. “This is to help grow the friendship bond among people associated with the Chamber.”
