After gun shots were heard near 122nd Avenue and SE Rhone Street, just south of the Safeway parking lot, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers converged on the area on June 13 at 9:44 p.m.

“I heard several loud ‘pops’ or ‘bangs’ – seven of them – that made me come outside to see what was going on across the street,” remarked neighbor Maggie Selbert.

“We have kids here; having shooting going on so close to us has me really worried,” Selbert told East Portland News as she watched officers searching the area for evidence.

Inside the crime scene, officers investigate the incident.

“Officers found one male who was shot; he was transported to a local area hospital,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sergeant Brad Yakots.

Ten officers responded to the scene, including members of the PPB Gun Violence Reduction Team, who assisted in the investigation.

The investigation into this shooting continues.

“The investigation continues into last night’s shooting,” confirmed Yakots on the following morning. “It was determined the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“There is no suspect information to be released at this time, as investigators are actively working this case,” Yakots said. “Investigators would like to hear from any witnesses; Detective Declerque can be reached at 503-823-2056, or Detective Corona at 503-823-0508.”
