Unlike gang-related shootings, or other violent street homicides, when a man was shot near the corner of NE Sandy Boulevard and Prescott Street – he later died in a hospital – he was reportedly shot by a friend, in the wee hours of Wednesday, June 19.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers were called to the scene at 2:36 a.m. on the 19th and located a wounded adult man, who was rushed to an area hospital.

Officers close off an area while they investigate the shooting.

“Another man, who was believed to be involved in the shooting, remained at the scene, and cooperated with investigators,” a PPB spokesperson said. “It is believed the two men are known to each other; so, there is no identified risk to the community related to this incident.”

The investigation continues into the dawn hours of the day.

Homicide Detectives arrested 30 year-old Tyler Wayne Pierce; he was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 1:01 p.m. that afternoon on charges of Manslaughter 1, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

At his arraignment in Multnomah County District Court, Pierce learned he’d be called to answer for the Felony Manslaughter I charge and the other two Misdemeanor charges. Pierce is currently lodged at Inverness Jail in lieu of $255,000 combined bail.

Officials say that person, Justin Stewart, is the man Pierce shot. Family provided image
