Save cans until July 9, asks ‘Parkrose Can Clan’

Don’t pitch your deposit-return bottles and cans after your holiday celebration. Here’s where to take them – to help support Parkrose school programs …

1,540,000 deposit-return bottles and cans later, the “Parkrose Can Man”, Dave Luce, says he’ll not relent in his effort to help out Parkrose area school groups as long as he can.

“Over the last five years, we’ve helped raise $77,000,” Luce reports, as he directs volunteers from the Parkrose School District Music Boosters – who help him sort the bottles, cans, and non-deposit items. “That’s a lot of bottles and cans,” he reflects.

This year, his individual efforts – collecting deposit-return containers from the 100 or so business and organizations that host his plastic barrels – netted more that $17,000 for his chosen charity, the Parkrose Senior All-night Party.

“I intend to keep up the first Saturdays of the month collections, because it helps support many organizations who come and help out,” he says.

Holiday delays driver until July 9
Usually, the can drive is held on the first Saturday of the month, Luce points out. “But, since it was a holiday weekend, we postponed it to the following Saturday.”

The Parkrose can drive is right across the street from the Parkrose Farmer’s Market, open 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Parkrose Middle School, on NE Shaver Street – a block west of NE 122nd Avenue. Call Dave Luce to have large loads picked up, or to answer questions: (503) 255-3745.
