ROSE Community Development Corporation (CDC) celebrated its 30th anniversary with a street fair on the cloudy afternoon of this past August 18th.
Grilling hot dogs at the event is “wiener chef” Jasse Chimuku of ChimukuCuisines.com.
ROSE CDC Executive Director Nick Sauvie shares a light moment with supporters of his organization.
“Yes, ROSE had been around since 1992; we’ve worked a lot, here in the Lents neighborhood, which is why we’re having the block party here,” outgoing ROSE CDC Executive Director Nick Sauvie told East Portland News at the event.
“ROSE stands for ‘Revitalizing Outer South East’ – which we do by providing affordable housing and other kinds of community development programs,” Sauvie reminded. “Perhaps you’ve heard about our new project on SE Powell Boulevard at 111th Avenue; we’re really excited about that!”

Several community organizations, associated with ROSE CDC, provide information and services for guests.
“We also operate the Lents Youth Initiative which provides paid summer internships for youths, in addition to our Baby Booster program which supports families who are pregnant and have young kids,” Sauvie continued.
“What we’re looking forward to in the next three decades is making sure that outer East Portland gets the same investment and attention it deserves; just like every other part of Portland,” ruminated Sauvie. “Part of that is housing – and supporting the people who live here.”
“And, as I’m preparing to step back, this afternoon, I’ll announce that our Ana Meza is being named co Executive Director,” concluded Sauvie.
After ROSE CDC’s Ana Meza is named new Executive Director by founder and long time current Executive Director Nick Sauvie, they pose for a photo for East Portland News.
