The evening of August 20th was winding down, at the Powell Hurst Tavern, 12344 SE Powell Boulevard, when at about half-past midnight a man entered with a gun that made it clear that he was there to rob the place.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers responded to the tavern at 12:28 a.m.; some of them began an investigation, others fanned out in the neighborhood looking for the armed suspect.

Police officers block off neighborhood streets looking for the armed robbery suspect.

“Officers learned the suspect had entered and demanded money while brandishing a firearm,” reported PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Burley. “After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the location without further incident.”

A search of the area didn’t turn up the suspect, who was described as a black male, in his 20’s, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, 250 to 300 pounds, and bald, with a beard.

Officers continue to search for the armed suspect in a tavern robbery.

“Investigators with the PPB Detective Division Robbery Detail will continue this investigation,” Burley assured.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Robbery Detail Detective Jennifer Hertzler at 503-823-0338 or by email, Jennifer.Hertzler@portlandoregon.gov.
