All lanes of SE 82nd Avenue of Roses were closed down on the evening of May 7 at 7:05 p.m., after a pedestrian was struck and injured while crossing the street at SE Woodward Street.
Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers began gathering facts after the victim was taken to a local hospital, while members of the Bureau’s Traffic Division documented evidence and conducted an investigation.
Within a half hour of the incident, the northbound lanes of SE 82nd Avenue of Roses were reopened to traffic.
The driver of the Toyota SUV remains in the vehicle, while the investigation gets underway.
A pedestrian’s Nike brand shoe remains under the vehicle, as the investigation continues.
The driver of a gold Toyota SUV stayed in her vehicle, stopped about 30 feet south of the intersection. Under the vehicle was a red Nike shoe.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim was struck in the intersection by the SUV which had been exiting Fubonn Shopping Center, and he was dragged a few feet, partially under the vehicle.
“From looking at the call notes, it doesn’t appear as if the pedestrian sustained serious injuries,” PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson told East Portland News, after looking up the case.
“The vehicle was turning left [south] onto SE 82nd Avenue of Roses, and struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk,” Simpson confirmed. “This case remains under investigation.”
Officers continue to investigate this vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.
