The southbound lanes of NE 82nd Avenue of Roses was closed to traffic for hours, starting at 6:08 p.m. on February 24, after the report that vehicle struck an pedestrian near N.E. Jonesmore Street, just north of the Interstate 84 overpass.

“I saw this girl – she was running across [NE 82nd Avenue of Roses] the far side [north] of this big barrier that keeps people from running across the street; it looked like she got hit by a car,” Jasmina Jackson told East Portland News at the scene. “People run across the street here all the time.”

While one police investigator operates a surveying device used for accident scene measurement, another looks on.

Initially, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched, but soon, as many as 12 police units from all over the city had arrived.

At the crown of the overpass, parked facing north, the PPB Traffic Division “Crash Team” van had parked, and investigators had a Nikon “Total Station” surveying tool set up nearby.

Typically not seen at crash sites, three “evidence markers” are set out across the highway.

“The pedestrian is a female juvenile; she was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries,” reported an anonymous PPB spokesperson. “The driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.”

No further information has yet been made available about this incident.
