The life of a man ended at 12:07 a.m. on April 7, when he attempted to cross SE Powell Boulevard, under the I-205 Overpass, on that rain-swept evening.
Members of the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Traffic Division Major Crash Team responded, and preliminary information suggests that the man had been crossing SE Powell Boulevard from north to south. The vehicle, a 2018 Mercedes SUV, was eastbound on Powell and struck him.
The PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team arrives at the scene.
“The first officer on scene found the pedestrian unconscious on the road,” a PPB spokesperson said. “She performed CPR on him until medical crews arrived and took over treatment. However, the pedestrian’s injuries were too severe, and he died on the scene.”
The driver stopped after the collision and cooperated with the investigation.
“Preliminary information suggests that visibility was a factor due to the poorly-lit area and the rainy weather; speed and impairment are not believed to be factors, and no arrests or citations have been made,” the spokesperson informed.
Into the night, investigators look into this accident.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the victim as 48-year-old Shawn Depriest Scott.
Anyone with information about the case should contact Traffic Investigator Officer Garrett Dow at (503) 823-5070.
