Parkrose’s ‘Faithful Savior Pantry’ continues to serve

See what this outer East Portland faith group is doing to help those in need, on the third Saturday of each month …

Folks who need a little food or some household sundries to “tide them over” until payday find help in Parkrose, at Faithful Savior Lutheran Church.

Since February of this year, members of Faithful Savior Lutheran Church have been periodically opening a “pantry” on their campus in Parkrose.

“We’ve been holding free pantry events every month for people who need food, and cleaning supplies, and now we have school supplies and free books too,” explained Kristina Gluth, President of the Faithful Savior Lutheran Church congregation.

The congregation’s President, Kristina Gluth, gathers food for folks in need.

“It is important especially these days, because as people are paying their bills but they often ‘come up short’ near the end of the month,” Gluth told East Portland News.

“That’s why we decided to create this outreach to our community – so they know that we have a sort of ‘safety net’ for them and their families, if they need a meal, or household supplies,” Gluth remarked.

Packing supplies for someone in need is volunteer, and church Board Member, Jerrilynn Nall.

“This is important; especially because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic that is continuing, with its variants – whether [recipients and] working, or not – for any families who may not have enough money to make it to the end of the month,” added Gluth.

Before their typical monthly “third Saturday” pantry, some people have contacted the church for “emergency food” for their family. A volunteer or the pastor will meet them at the church to help, said Gluth. “And if anyone needs to contact the church, they should call (503) 257-9409.”

While they last, church volunteer Elaine Bork has school supplies and lots of free books, for families who need them.
