Opening day of 2022 Parkrose Marketplace on May 7 saw sporadic rain showers skitter across Parkrose – some of them light, and some soaking – to start their second season.

The market returned to the “Public Street Plaza” established by the Portland Bureau of Transportation, along NE 108th Avenue, just south of Sandy Boulevard. By 9 a.m., vendors were setting up their canopies, awaiting the arrival of customers coming through to purchase their wares an hour later, when the market opened.

Showing his brand at the market is Darius Northern, creator of People of Colour Clothing.

Crafters and vendors have their merchandise on display for shoppers.

In addition to a wide mix of merchandise, the once-a-month, two-day market also featured craft beer for sale, both bottled and draft, as well as prepared, ready-to-eat food and packaged food products.

The stormy weather didn’t keep families and individuals from coming by to visit the vendors.

In the Gateway Brewing booth is “guest brewer” Dylan Vandetta of Labyrinth Forge Brewing Company in the Roseway neighborhood, who pours a glass of his beer.

Shopper Hoang Hua gets his lunch of authentic Filipino food prepared by the folks from Tin’s Kitchen.

Music filled the area – provided by Gyorgy Brezovey in the morning, and a loose coalition of musicians headed by Fito Roberts in the afternoon.

The market’s Manager, Terry Murphy, was not on hand for comment. However, in an email, he told us that this year, the Parkrose Marketplace is operating under a nonprofit organization called the “Parkrose Community Alliance” that supports the market, and is expected to take on other community projects.

What started with his facial hair has since become a clothing line, says Edgar Baker, creator of the brand National Beard League.

You’ll find the Parkrose Marketplace along NE 108th Avenue, just south of Sandy Boulevard from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on June 11/12, July 9/10; August 6/7; September 10/11, and October 8/9 this year.

Here’s a quick look at some of the vendors we found at the first Parkrose Marketplace of the 2022 season:
