Amiee Blevins of SweetHeart Bake Shop and her son show off some of her tasty treats to Parkrose Farmers Market Manager Ron Glanville.

“Having a mid-week farmers market open here in outer East Portland is a new concept we’re trying out this season,” said Market Manager Ron Glanville. “Neighbors can come by and shop on their way home from work or from a summer activity.”

Shoppers will find many of the same fruit and vegetable farmer vendors that are at their Saturday market, Glanville told East Portland News.

“We also have local craft vendors, and plant and flower growers; great sourdough bread from a family bakery in Kalama, Washington; and a wonderful local baker with delicious pastries,” grinned Glanville.

Kong Xiong and his family sell fresh-cut flower arrangements and vegetables at their stall.

It’s easy to pick up everything for a supper – including prepared foods – at the Parkrose Midweek Farmers Market.

One could pick up the fixings for a prepared dinner, Glanville added. There is Thai food and a vendor with authentic tamales – or, take home Fresh and Smoked Columbia River Salmon, now sold here along with locally-laid duck and chicken eggs.”

The market has “token” program for SNAP and Seniors customers that matches dollars spent, up to $20 each market day. “Just sign up for the program,” Glanville encouraged.

Love tomatoes? So does outer East Portland’s “Mr. Tomato”, Clay Osburn, who says he has a bumper crop on the vine, almost ready to harvest. Donna Parker is helping at this booth today.

You’ll find the Parkrose Farmers Midweek Market open every Wednesday through September 3, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. It’s at the Parkrose Community United Church of Christ, on NE Halsey Street at 125th Avenue, just east of BI-MART.
