A driver is dead after crashing into parked cars on January 1, not long after the 2023 New Year rang in. It happened on a dead-end street in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

Portland Police Bureau (PPB) East Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:33a.m., to SE 125th Avenue near Ivon Court – a long block south of SE Division Street. Although other streets connect to 125th Avenue, all of them end in dead ends.

“When they arrived, they learned that the driver of a sedan had crashed into multiple parked vehicles and was deceased,” a PPB spokesperson told reporters.

The PPB Major Crash Team was soon there to take over the investigation.

“It’s just crazy how people drive down our street,” a neighbor told reporters. “125th is the only way in and out of these blocks; it doesn’t connect with any other roads! That guy must have ‘floored it’, romping on the gas pedal, to get up the speed he did in this short distance.”

Little is known about the circumstances leading up to the crash that wrecked this Toyota, and the driver of another vehicle.
