Another tragic collision took place along NE Marine Drive on Wednesday evening, March 26, in the extreme northeast edge of outer East Portland.

At 5:46 p.m., Portland Police Bureau (PPB) North Precinct were dispatched to 17000 Northeast Marine Drive – where there are no intersections, just a slight bend in the road.

The officers found Ford Super Duty pick-up truck and a black sport utility vehicle – damaged beyond recognition – had collided head-on.

Portland Fire & Rescue firefighter/paramedics work to free occupants trapped in this smashed SUV.

“The two occupants of the truck did not appear to be suffering from any injuries,” a PPB official remarked. “But the driver of the SUV was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, with life-threatening injuries.”

The PPB’s Major Crash Team was also sent to investigate the crash. Into the evening, NE Marine Drive was closed down from 158th to 185th Avenues.

Surprisingly, the occupants of this pickup truck walked away from this violent smashup. The person in the other vehicle was not as lucky.

At this point, there has been no information made public about how one vehicle wound up on the wrong side of the road at this location. If you have information about the incident, contact crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov, attention Traffic Investigations Unit, and reference Case No. 25-077554.
