Plans are coming together as the area’s 118th continuous annual celebration of community — the Multnomah County Fair. It is again scheduled to take place over Memorial Day weekend – May 25 through 27 – at historic and nonprofit Oaks Amusement Park on the east bank of the Willamette River at Sellwood.

Taking a break from a committee meeting, it’s Friends of Multnomah County Fair Inc. Board Chair Larry Smith!

“As it has in the past, the Multnomah County Fair will provide three full days of family fun, including competitive exhibits, musical and stage performances, a car show, and interactive activities – all free, with no gate charge,” grinned Friends of Multnomah County Fair Inc. Board Chair Larry Smith.

“This year, the fair will be under new management,” Smith told East Portland News. “Our Board of Directors hired Armando Gonzales, of Mando’s Mundo Entertainment LLC, who has ably managed and produced our La Familia Day for the previous two years, to work in this capacity.”

One of the many acts set to perform at this year’s fair is VisionEnvoy, dancing in traditional Chinese Quing Dynasty costumes.

“With Multnomah County being the home to such a diverse population, we want everyone to feel welcome at the fair, and are increasing culturally inclusive entertainment and activities,” Smith continued.

“Among the free entertainment offerings, there will be Chinese cultural performances, a Hip Hop dance-off, and an LGBTQ+ youth choir performance!” enthused Smith.

Always a crowd pleaser, Ballet Papalotl will again entertain at this year’s fair.

And, there will be expanded offerings in their Creative Living Exhibition, again to be held in The Oaks’ Dance Pavilion, featuring community-created exhibits reflecting the culture of both urban and rural artisans and crafters.

It wouldn’t be a county fair without thrill rides – and Oaks Amusement Park has them! – including the thrilling AtmosFear.

And, during all three days of the Fair, Oaks Amusement Park rides and concessions will be providing big fun and snacks, at affordable family prices. Gate Admission to the fair is free. Be aware that there is now a $5.00 daily Oaks Park fee for parking, however.
