Folks in this outer East Portland neighborhood say that, based on the number of bullets that were fired, he’s lucky to be alive …
In the eastern reaches of the Montavilla neighborhood, more than a dozen gunshots bring police to the area.

Just south of the I-84 Banfield Freeway, a man was shot near NE 87th Avenue and Hassalo Street, on Friday evening, March 20.
Portland Police Bureau (PPB) North Precinct officers were sent to the scene at 9:11 p.m. by several calls to the 9-1-1 Center.
“When officers arrived they found evidence of a shooting, but there were no victims or suspects,” reported a PPB spokesperson.

Officers did locate two occupied homes and one car which had been struck by gunfire, but nobody inside had been injured. “A short time later, an adult male arrived at a hospital by private vehicle with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm,” the police official stated.
“I knew it wasn’t the 4th of July, but it sure sounded like it, with all the shots going off out in our street,” Willie Latham told East Portland News. “There were all kinds of police here, looking and checking everywhere.
“Now that we’re ‘trapped’ at home by that ‘China bug’, I’m worried that the shooter is still out there,” Latham remarked.

There’s still no word about the PPB Gun Violence Reduction Team officers’ findings in this incident, other than that the it is still under investigation.
Anyone with information about this shooting is requested to call the PPB’s Tactical Operations Division at 503-823-4106, or email information to GVRT@portlandoregon.gov.
