See why outer East Portland folks continue to patronize the Montavilla Famers Market this season …
On many Sunday mornings, neighbors head to the Montavilla Farmers Market, shopping for produce and prepared foods.

This year’s Montavilla Famers Market is still going strong – as shoppers, supporters, and vendors are observing each week.
“When people see me outside the market, one of the things I’m most asked is if the things are ‘slowing down’ at the market,” remarked Market Manager Amanda Cross during our September 9th visit.
Market Manager Amanda Cross spends a moment with George Koop, who vends goods by his friend, who creates French Algerian pastries and jams at Confiterie.
“Actually, this is the best time of year to come, because it’s when we have all the wonderful vegetables of summer, and we’re seeing very nice melons – but we’re also beginning to see some winter squash, apples, and tree fruit coming in,” Cross told East Portland News.
Long before the market’s scheduled closing time, many vendors were already looking at empty shelves. “Right from the opening bell this morning, we’ve been busy with shoppers,” Cross observed. “This does make the vendors smile, because they don’t want to take their produce or prepared food back home with them!”
Even after a busy day, a good selection of produce remains, from which late-arriving shoppers may choose.
This market continues to be such a success, Cross commented, “Because people have come to know the quality of food that they can get here. Also it’s a great community experience to come here, meet friends, or make new friends!”
More good news for the market: They’ve been assured that they can continue to hold the market at this location through their last “Winter Stock-up Market” next February.
